The explosive increase of social networking sites in this decade such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, which added a new social dimension to the web. The development of these website followed by the growth of social networks addiction, especially addict in the current king of the jungle : Facebook. The American Psychology Association (AMA) has been labeled this new mental health disorder known as a non-medical approve term, Facebook Addiction Disorder (FAD).

Facebook Addiction Disorder (FAD), a psycho-physiological disorder that involved once person withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, affective disturbances, and interruption of social relationship. It is not a type of substance addiction but behavioural addiction similar to pathological gambling, sexual and shopping addiction. It describes a situation in which the time spend for Facebook surpass their daily activities like eat, bath, work or sleep. This type or disorder is very common among teenagers and young adults around the world no matter where geographical location they are.

Psychologist Dr. Michael Fenichel ( the one who published numerous writing about FAD online) describe FAD as it’s a situation which Facebook usage “overtakes daily activities like your normal function, eating, working, waking up, sleeping and many more”.

Dr.Joanna Lipari a clinical psychologist at University of California, Los Angeles made another Signs for the Facebook Addiction Disorder and here as follow:
1. Lose of sleep due of Facebook, you’re logged in the whole night that affects your daily function and routine the next day.
2. You spend more than one hour, average time for any site.
3. Become obsessed with your exes and reconnect them on Facebook.
4. You ignore working in exchange of Facebook.
5. A day without Facebook give you stress and feeling of anxiety.

Facebook Addiction Symptoms

  • You wake up in the morning, and first thing you do is log onto your Facebook account.
  • You spend more than an hour on Facebook - at a stretch or in short episodes over regular intervals.
  • You and your siblings converse through Facebook wall and messages, even though you stay in same house.
  • You can't seem to stop thinking about Facebook updates and comments when you are offline.
  • You check Facebook for updates and comments after every hour at your workstation or on your cell phone.
  • You look forward to get home in the evening so that you can see what is happening in cyberspace (on Facebook to be precise.)
  • Your Facebook wall is full of status updates, comments, and applications that you just used.
  • You can't go for a day without using Facebook, and even this thought makes you go into sort of depression.
  • You give priority to Facebook over your commitments in professional and personal life.
  • And lastly, your day ends with you checking Facebook for that one last time and bidding people 'good nite' through your Facebook status update. (You may even get an urge to wake up at middle of the night to see whether anyone has commented on your 'gud nite' status.)


Facebook Addiction Disorder can be cause some sort of physical n mentality problem especially the health problem like obesity and eye problem. Beside, a plenty of time has been waste due to some user put off their important work or study time to browse through Facebook. Thus, Facebook Addiction disorder is a serious social problem that need to be solve to overcome the problem that was brought.
