Factors of misuse #2

As far as I concerned about the problem. I can conclude basically there are two main factors that lead to the misuse of social network. The first will be under personal problem and the second is about the law. These two factors often work together and you will know why the problem is getting more rampant.

Let's go for the personal problem first.

Although it's a cliche, but the neglect of parents is always the factor that lead to many wrongdoing. As you know, the economy is not as good as last time and many countries around are currently suffering from the economic crisis. Greece will be the classic example right now. Therefore, it's not surprised that many parents are forced to work for double income. As the result, the children are neglected. So what would the children do to overcome the feeling of solitude? Surely friendship will be the only salvation for these pitiful children. As you know, the influence of friends can be sometime even greater than the family. This marks the beginning of the misuse of social network. As you can see there are many groups in facebook are for spreading hatred purpose. And some of the members are sociopath. This people use social network as a mean to voice out their own "philosophy" and many of the "followers" are actually those who lacking of family love. There's a group I found in facebook about disgust of Malay. Most of them are primary and secondary schools' students. They scold as harsh as they can and the members from the group like each others' comments and add more nastier words to enhance somebody's word.

That concludes for the first part of personal problems. And now I will move on to the next. It's still under personal problem but not as often happen as the first one. People often say 90s are brainless and indeed 90s are outstanding in the negative sense. They are often the one who use social network as a mean to gain popularity but often in the way that is against the social norm. Sharing nude on social network is no longer something fresh and I believe it happens everyday at everywhere. Some of the cases are framed but more are volunteer. Besides that, there was guy who announced for suicide on facebook recently. His page was being liked for 50,000 times in just one to two days. Though most of the people who liked the page is for scolding purpose, but that guy has fulfilled his objective which is to gain popularity with the public's concern.

In my opinion, these two factors will be the popular one under personal problem. But there's surely still more and some of them is yet to be investigated. I will just briefly talk about some other personal factors here. Revenge is surely another popular factor that lead to the misuse of social network. Hacking, upload nude of someone,substitute someone on a naked body and share it on social network are example of revenge. Recently, there's case about a high school teacher confessed his wrongdoing on his facebook. At the same time, there were number of facebook users who admitted to be his students told the truth on their facebook respectively that they had been molested by the high school teacher before. Rumors about the high school teacher's account was hacked and that those who admitted to be his students and once was molested by him were imposture are spreading around. Nobody knows the truth for now. But one thing we should learn from here which is facebook could be a grave for your reputation if someone intended to do so. Accusation can be faked, those who pointed the finger of accusation can be faked as well, who knows they are the same person.

That concludes for the first factors. And now we should go on with the second factor which is the law.

As we know, there's no specific law to deal with the problem or the loophole has become a big resistant to overcome the problem of misusing the social network. Like what I said in the beginning, the personal factors often work with the law factors in making the problems become more and more rampant. Let say for the case that someone had created a group to spread hatred like anti-Islam. The law enforcement can investigate the case under sabotage racial harmony, but the problem they facing is there are a lot people who joined the group. So can they just catch all of them? Plus the account of the group creator could be created purposely for setting up the group and yet another problem arise which is the tracking of IP. Those who plan accordingly to do something bad could not be that stupid. They might use the computer at cyber cafe for cyber crime. Therefore, it's difficult to stop it. The incompleteness of law, the poor execution of law, the advance technology, and a big group of members who stand on the gray area. The challenge is too great, so it's no wonder why the problems cannot be solved. In contrast, it becomes more and more serious.

In conclusion, it's never the fault of IT product, but the people who misuse them. Social network is like a virtual earth for us. Pollution leads to destruction of the earth/virtual world. Please take care of it together. And remember what goes around comes around.
